Yesterday was Valentine’s day. Many went shopping for gifts and even went on dates, but if we show love only on special occasions, we miss the essence of love; for true love never ceases to show care daily.

Love has never been an emotional feeling. The world tells us that when the feelings are no longer there, then it is time to walk away. But is this true?

…For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten… (John 3:16).

This is the whole essence of love, to do what is right to the one you love even when things don’t go your way. None of us can love right by ourselves but when we let God (who is love) into our heart, He restores and resets us for the kind of love that can last a lifetime.

I have fallen short in loving others severally, especially my husband and so has my husband fallen short severally in efforts of loving me. If we desire a love that never ceases, we must return daily to God’s presence. He teaches and loves us, leaving us with a fragrance of love that rubs off on others.

The question we must all ask ourselves is how we can love right.
  1.  By letting God love us first. This is achieved when we create specific daily time with Him. Learn to hear Him and obey His instructions. This is the foundation of love.
  2. By giving our love to God through His son Jesus Christ; permitting ourselves to be totally open and vulnerable to God, learning to value ourselves as He valued us. Not as the world does.
  3. Loving others with the same value God has put on you.

This simply means that loving right requires treating everyone especially my spouse the way I want to be treated, but refusing to break God’s command in order to please anyone. For when we break God’s command, we devalue ourselves and give others permission to devalue and hurt us too.

Today, we ask you to practice exhibiting the ceaseless love of God by daily walking with Him and obeying His instructions.

Let us pray:

Thank You Lord for the gift of salvation. We ask for grace to love unceasingly like You have loved us, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
