Every year couples celebrate valentine. I see a lot of people working hard to do something exceptional for one and another; husband, wife, children, and parents. But if the only time you take out to do something truly special for one another is during valentine and birthdays, then you have grossly fallen short and that is why we should always remember that if love is not a lifestyle then it is not love at all!

Today, i want us to look intricately on what love is and what it is not. You know, sometimes we hear about love, and we think of the emotions, feelings. But is that all love is about?

What is love? You can summarize love with this scripture, 1 Corinthians 13.
Love is kind. Love is patient. It’s not being kind only to those who are kind and patient, it is being kind and patient irrespective of another’s action. Therefore, we can say that True Love is indeed the foundation of every relationship.

Love is a quality that doesn’t change according to how we are treated, rather it emanates from our core.

There’s a joke i usually crack in my house, that i am married to two husbands. The first happens to be my Lord Jesus Christ, and the second happens to be my husband. Why do I say that? It’s my way of balancing the true love of God in my heart, so that the days my husband doesn’t treat me as I deem fit or I expect, my eyes are stayed on the one who loves me, God.

This has helped me in how i feel like treating my husband versus the way God expects me to treat him, irrespective of his actions. Does it mean I should allow him to abuse me? Not at all, but what it means is I would not compromise my love story, because at the end, Salvation is a love story. Your marriage is a love story. The children we give birth to is a love story. The heavens and the earth, including the sun, moon, stars, animals, plants, oceans, etc, are part of God’s love story.

Take a look at the plants, they give out oxygen, and they receive carbon dioxide that in itself is a great love story. If you look at everything from the eyes of gratitude, you will see that everything that is happening, even the things we don’t like, are all part of God’s love story. So if our love story is only brought out at a particular time in life, then we have missed the essence of the love story.

So this weekend, find different ways to show love to another, and make it a daily habit. Let selfless love be your mantra.
